SUBSUELO
Subsuelo is a global bass crew from Los Angeles that brings together DJs, dancers, visual artists and live instrumentation for a unique blend of cumbia, salsa, hip-hop, house, reggaeton, and tropical funk.
Cutting across genres and generations, crisscrossing borders and BPMs, Subsuelo has performed at Coachella, Red Bull Music Academy, Boiler Room, Museum of Modern Art (NYC), Joshua Tree Music Festival, LAMC, Northern Nights, Lightning In a Bottle and more.
Over the years Subsuelo has thrown parties with special guests Louie Vega, Cut Chemist, Ana Tijoux, Quantic, Los Rakas, Nortec Collective, Novalima, Mexican Institute of Sound, Nickodemus, Money Mark, Toy Selectah, Chancha Via Circuito, Nu-Mark, Dave Nada, Buraka Som Sistema and more.
SUBSUELO HISTORY
In 2011, Subsuelo first started as a series of late-night house parties in Boyle Heights, and eventually grew into a monthly celebration at Eastside Luv in Plaza Mariachi, named “Best Eastside Club Night” by LA Weekly.
In 2015, Subsuelo teamed up with Late Night Laggers to start Calentura, a new global bass party that partnered with iconic salsa label Fania Records. The debut Calentura album included Bomba Estereo, Tropkillaz, Dengue Dengue Dengue and Happy Colors, and was featured in Rolling Stone, SPIN, Billboard, Complex, XLR8R, NPR, Boiler Room and more.
In 2017, Subsuelo launched a weekly outdoor summer party at Caña Rum Bar. Subsuelo Sundays continues to this day, a free celebration of community, diversity and love.
In 2018, Subsuelo started a Caramelo, a spin-off party that currently goes down every 4th Friday at La Cita.
In 2019, Subsuelo performed at Coachella, and Lightning in a Bottle.
In 2020, Subsuelo hosted weekly live-streams during the pandemic.
In 2021, Subsuelo celebrated its 10 Year Annivesary with a major showcase at Grand Performances featuring Los Rakas, El Dusty, LNL, Zuzuka Poderosa, Reyna Tropical and Cumbiatón.
In 2022, Subsuelo competed in Red Bull Culture Clash against The Do-Over, Gasolina and Recreo. Subsuelo’s performance featuring special guests Cypress Hill, Danny Trejo, Ape Drums + Walshy Fire (Major Lazer), Los Rakas, Boom Bap Kids, Jenn Morel and more!
